A new tide of prodigious UK DJ/producers is carving out the sound that has become synonymous with London's underground scene. Commandeering warehouse spaces across the capital, reaching the shores of the magical island and beyond, at the forefront we find Archie Hamilton.
Compassionate, and with a good head on his shoulders, he is not the most vocal of the pack, nor does he have to be. His music does the talking, along with the conspicuous artwork decorating his two labels, Moscow Records and Moss Co. Forging his own distinct sound behind the decks, as well as in the studio; his sets take you on a hypnotic trip through house and techno. Unmistakably stripped-back yet driving, he constructs deep and emotive narratives underpinned by bass and groove – music for your mind and feet.
The London-born artist was first introduced to electronic music as a teenager through his mother’s jungle and acid house tape packs. The 14-year-old would begin to gather all the elec- tronic/rock/punk/funk and soul LPs he found in the house, and try to scratch and mix them together with records from his own collection, on a his purple Numark belt-drive turntables. A natural interest in production followed, which was the trigger for a series of predestined events to unravel.
One day Archie found himself on the dance floor of an infamous Sunday afternoon scenario, and the connection was immediate. Later, a chance meeting with FUSE mainstay Luke Miskelly,
would propel Archie onto the East London party circuit. Following a lot of hard work and a healthy balance of confidence and modesty, today he has cemented his position as local hero and is indisputably one of the most exciting artists emerging from the new UK underground.
Counting releases on respected labels including Fear of Flying, NG Trax, FUSE London and Fasten Musique, he is also preoccupied running his own two labels Moscow Records and Moss Co. Both imprints serve as platforms for Archie’s various stylistic expressions, ranging from minimal, to more classic tech house, as well as hip hop and downtempo. Married with his sharp A&R ears, building lasting relationships with other up-and-coming artists, the labels are hitherto marked by a consistent output with continues to garner support from the great and good of house and techno.
Coming up he has a downtempo remix for Guti on his jazz label Rompecorazones, as well as his debut solo EP on Moscow Records, complete with a remix from Priku.
